Scoil Fonn agus Amhrán 2023

In 1982 Comhairle na Mumhan initiated Scoil Fonn & Amhrán in response to the concern being expressed at that time about the quality of air playing, narrow repertoire of singers and musicians, all numbers participating in slow air playing and singing competitions, and the over emphasis on reel and jigs, etc. at sessions and classes to the apparent detriment of our airs.   This year we continue with Scoil Fonn & Amhrán in conjunction with Fleadh Cheoil na Mumhan in MTU Tralee on Friday, July 14th 2023.

So as to make the slow air playing and singing workshops more available to participants, each County has been asked to organise (with help from Comhairle na Mumhan) a one day Scoil Fonn & Amhrán prior to County Fleadhanna.

Tipperary Scoil Fonn: Saturday, April 15th. Book at tipperary@comhaltas.net

Clare Scoil Fonn: Friday, April 14th. Book at clare@comhaltas.net

These will be followed by the Munster Scoil Fonn & Amhrán on Friday, July 14th 2023 – an intensive one day series of workshops on slow air playing, Fidil/Fiddle,  Cruit/Harp, Feadóg Mhór/Flute, Feadóg/Whistle, Amhránaíocht and Singing.   There is now a greater awareness of the importance of slow airs because of the increased popularity of the S.C.T. traditional music exams where an air is essential.

TTCT Preparatory Course

The purpose of a Preparatory Teaching Course is to give musicians the opportunity to explore their skills as aspiring teachers. This course would be the next step in the Comhaltas Education Programme and would bridge the gap between the SCT and the TTCT. While a candidate gains their valuable teaching experience necessary for entrance to the TTCT, this course gives the teacher guidelines and the incentive to further enhance their potential. This one day course is aimed at potential teachers from 16 years of age and up. No previous teaching experience is required. This course also provides an incentive for current TTCT teachers to refresh their knowledge and skills if they so wish.
The Course covers Methodology, Common Repertoire Types, Child Protection, SCT as a teaching tool, Teaching Practice/Demonstration and concludes with Reflection and Discussion. Closing Date for Applications is August 31st 2022.

Date: Sunday 18th September 2022
Time: 10.00am – 5.00pm.
Course Fee: €75
