Latest Comhairle na Mumhan News

Comhairle na Mumhan wish to extend their deepest sympathy to the family of Sorcha Ní Síocháin (Sarah Sheehan-O'Connor) who was laid to rest on August 4th in Kanturk. Sorcha was the first secretary of Cork County Board of Comhaltas and later went on to become the first Treasurer of the Munster Council of Comhaltas in 1960/61. She was the last surviving founder member of Comhairle na Mumhan.

Sorcha will be remembered as a true stalwart of Comhaltas and An Ghaeilge and did a huge amount of work in the early years of Comhaltas to promote the culture using her great organisational skills. She was a highly efficient officer in whatever role she fulfilled. in the 1950's she founded Féile Cheoil Ceanntoirc which was a most successful event held in Kanturk each winter. She also played a key role in the organisation of the very first Fleadh Cheoil Chorcaí held in Kanturk in 1962.

Fleadh na Mumhan 2015
Congratulations to all the prizewinners at the recent Fleadh na Mumhan 2015 in Nenagh. Best wishes to all who will be going forward to represent the province at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Sligo from August 14th - 16th.

The Comhaltas Summer Seisiún shows will be hosted by 20 Munster branches this summer and will be getting underway in the next two weeks across the province.

Séisiún presents a show of Irish traditional music, song, dance, stories and more, bringing our Irish cultural traditions to life. Each Seisiún show offers an unique audience experience for locals and visitors alike - a real taste of our cultural talent. The first part of the night promises a show with depth but variety as the various aspects of Irish dancing, solo and group instrumental music and singing in both Irish and English are showcased by a resident group of performers. After a break for tea, the evening concludes with an informal session where audiences are invited to take to the floor for a Seige of Ennis or The Walls of Limerick. Join in a song or if you play an instrument please bring it along!

Please support your local Seisiún venue this Summer and spread the word to your branch members about your local Seisiún show.
